Do me a favor: don’t ever cheat on the person you’re with. If you really need to look elsewhere for love, affection, sex, attention, etc., please at least take a break. Leave, end things, whatever. Trust me, you can. Even if you have kids or are broke as a joke; stop making excuses.

You have no idea what your actions will do to the person you cheat on. Not only in the immediate situation, but in the future. You will fuck with their head long after they’ve stopped caring about you. You will ensure that, even with therapy, they will never trust another human being the way they did before. They will always wonder, not if, but when the situation will occur again.  

They will wonder why it happened, even if you can explain your reasons. They will wonder what they could have done differently, even if there was nothing they could change. They will blame themselves, even if it’s all of your doing. They may meet someone new, but your shadow will linger, clouding their ability to see the new person for the possibility of happiness. Or they may recognize it, but not be willing to open themselves up to the chance that they’ll face that kind of humiliation again. 

If you aren’t happy in your relationship, end it or separate for a time. Don’t make excuses for your infidelity. There’s no grey area, no matter what you’re telling yourself to sleep better with your decision.
